Superglue: Conversation Piece with the Last Generation

in the context of the exhibition PROTEST/ARCHITECTURE: Barricades, Camps, Superglue

“We all belong to the last generation still capable of stopping irreversible climate breakdown.” Climate activists value “art and culture just as much as they do the rule of law.” Through targeted actions, they question what our art and culture is still worth “if we are forced to compete for food and water.” What does criminalizing peaceful protest movements mean for our democratic culture, and what role do public museums play here?

MAK – Museum of Applied Arts
In the context of the exhibition PROTEST/ARCHITECTURE: Barricades, Camps, Superglue, we speak with activists of the Last Generation about their strategies, organization, and culture of peaceful civil resistance—and about their demands to governments, decision-makers, and institutions of education and culture. Once more we address together the question as to how change can come about—and how civil society can exert pressure to instigate not only new thinking but also sustainable action.

THE FORMAT CONVERSATION PIECES
We need to talk! In the art education format Conversation Pieces we will speak with artists, activists, scientists, and personalities from various fields about select objects from the MAK Collection. Conversation Pieces is dedicated to themes like diversity, feminism, participation or loneliness, symbiotic bodies, racism in collections, planet care, and much more. We use the MAK as a polyphonic place for the exchange of ideas and to engage in various sociopolitical discourses and problems that enable new perspectives on an extraordinary collection. Conversation Pieces can be understood as an impetus to make widespread pictorial worlds and narratives visible and to critically question them by talking about them together.
